Gallery Heist is pleased to present, This To Shall Pass, a solo exhibition featuring new works by Justin Lovato. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 7-11pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Justin Lovato is a working painter from Sacramento, currently residing in Berkeley, California. His work has been shown throughout the world in cities including Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles CA, Miami FL, Washington DC, New York and Moscow, Russia. Having previously participated in group shows with Gallery Heist, Lovato returns for his first solo exhibition which will also serve as his San Francisco debut solo show. This To Shall Pass is the latest series by Justin Lovato. A self taught artist, Lovato's method is more instinctive than learned and more evolved than trained. Aside from the content of his work, and the strata of colors beneath, Lovato's signature style can be directly attributed to his complex and spirited line work.

Lovato creates dreamlike, ethereal landscapes that reflect his thoughts on nature and our relation to it, human belief systems, the psycho-political-control system, multidimensional concepts and esoteric symbolism. With this most recent body of work, he explores the hierarchy structure of society and offers a hopeful message, "Maybe someday this system will pass and a regular person may get what they're entitled to." Through the use of visual communication Lovato applies contrasting opposites, creating an illustrative narrative that aims to capture the movement of ideas and philosophy, people and the detachment from the systems within which we are confined, exploring the ideas of passing and dissolving memory, experience, dreams and expansion of awareness through a personal image mythos mixed among archetypal esoteric symbolism that draws from our past and collective human experience.

Lovato creates images of disintegrating ideas and people shifting and changing. Working with the basic rule of contrasting opposites that can be used to unify one another, Lovato executes works as a perfect formula in color and other types of visual communication. Suns and moons, man and woman, old and young, living and dead. Shelter in times of the greatest of suffering, and humbling in a moment of prosperity. This Too Shall Pass, catalogues the temporary nature of all things seen, a certainty amidst an atmosphere of discord and antagonistic uncertainty on the great blue dot, earth. Thoughts, beliefs, wealth, poverty, economic systems, all volatile in an environment where sometimes peace is fleeting like mercurial liquid passing through hands. It is a comfort in an intrinsically anarchistic universe. It is through his work and this most recent series that Lovato hopes to bring to light the awareness of impermanence and an awakening that might help encourage a positive shift on a global scale. We foresee a bright future ahead of Justin Lovato, and are incredibly excited to be working with him.
