INTERVIEW BETWEEN GALLERY HEIST & JASON VIVONA CO-FOUNDER OF WE RIDE AT NIGHT

April 16, 2010 CURRENT, EXHIBITIONS

I sat down with Jason Vivona co-founder of WE RIDE AT NIGHT to ask him a few questions about the company and how the project started. The show opened on Saturday April 3, 2020. Come check it out before we bring it down!

GH: What is WE RIDE AT NIGHT?

JV: WE RIDE AT NIGHT is a small collective/company that makes limited Artist prints in the form of skateboards and clothing.

GH: How did it come about?

JV: Brian Henderson and myself had both previously ran small companies, and I also have curated for a few places and missed that and collaborating with different artists, so we got together and started talking about this.

GH: When was it founded and by who?

JV: It was founded a year ago by Brian Henderson and myself, and now Matthew Izen is part of it as well.

GH: Who’s involved?

JV: We have the core 3 people who actually work for the company, then we set out to make collaborative things with artists, all the artists in this show for example.

GH: What do you guy’s plan on doing with the company/project?

JV: keep making fun stuff with rad people..

GH: Where and how often do you plan on throwing shows?

JV: The goal is to have a couple a year, all over the place….

GH: Where can we buy the merch and decks?

JV: www.werideatnight.com , there is a link to our bigcartel store on there, and there will be show specific, limited products at the opening….

GH: Why Skateboards and Apparel?

JV: They are both really accessable products that can be heavily art based, like functional prints. I know a lot of people that would buy a cool shirt over a cool print, you know what I mean?

GH: What else is everyone working on?

JV: Everyone involved is super prolific in their own right, Brian is a photographer and videographer, Matthew plays in The Velveteen and Polarbears, and all of the guest artists have crazy amounts of stuff going on, like Jay Howell and Ryan De La Hoz….those are some busy people.

GH: How can someone go about getting in on the fun?

JV: Just contacting us and getting down with us. We have been meeting so many rad new people through this, that’s a huge driving factor.

GH: Are y’all going to be holding any skate or art comps?

JV: Maybe something along the lines of an “art comp”, but more like weird series products that people can submit to, like we want to do a whole line of shirts designed by some of our artists, but they have to use Microsoft Paint Program to create their design. Weird, fun limitations and collabos like that are on the horizon.

GH: How often will you release boards?

JV: Hopefully about every 3-4 months or  so, the more momentum we get, the more stuff we can collab on and release. our profit margin is kept insanely thin so that the sales of our products pretty much just cover costs and make us enough to run another line. it’s totally about having art fun.

Come check out the show before we take it down.
